This fifth chapter of Hebrews is just an introduction to Christ’s priesthood. The subject moves to the great exhortation of chapter 6 and then it proceeds more fully from chapter 7 on to deal with the high priesthood of Christ.
What great commitment Jesus Christ has shown to his people! The Son of God has come into our world and joined himself to human nature in order to make it possible for him to act as our perfect high priest. Nothing has been overlooked and the union of the divine and human nature in one person has been achieved, though to us it is a mystery beyond our understanding. God has overlooked nothing, and all this is directed towards the task of saving the elect of God. If our great high priest has left heaven and come to earth in order to take our nature so that he could represent us, how can he ever abandon us now that his work of redemption is complete?
