Hebrews 9:6 Commentary and Bible Study

Referring back to the first chamber of the tabernacle mentioned in verse 2, the writer says that the priests – we are thinking now of all the priests and not just the high priest – went always, at all times, continually, into this outer room to perform their daily priestly duties. This is said to setup a contrast with what the high priest did, described in the verse 7. The priests were appointed to carry out various ritual tasks, including tending to the lampstand, the putting out of the showbread, and the regular offering up of the many different sacrifices ordained by the law. All these could be done without entering into the holy of holies. All these priests performed their regular duties and they too symbolise the person of Christ and different aspects of his work, but it is to the high priest that our attention is being particularly drawn.
