Here is a great prophecy: ‘Thus saith the LORD against all mine evil neighbours, that touch the inheritance which I have caused my people Israel to inherit; Behold, I will pluck them out of their land.’ These are the nations alongside Judah, who God calls his neighbours, because he had made Israel his people and the land where his Tabernacle was located.
God loves his people and notes every evil act done to them. Those who treat it as sport or a challenge to try to bring corruption into the world will have their own particular punishment from the Lord. He will not always prevent from doing harm, but he will certainly avenge himself of it. But so great is his grace that even some who were most vicious to his people will experience his grace. They will be built up in the midst of his people. This is figurative language which is fulfilled when God makes converted Gentiles to be one with his true people: those who like Nathaniel, are Israelites indeed.
