Now the tone changes. He is out of the stocks now, but he uses very disagreeable language.
We have this insight into the anguish in the heart of a true man of God, so that those who face isolation and opposition for the sake of their testimony do not give up in despair. Jeremiah’s heart is exposed so that we know to what extremities we may be driven. God gives us the strength to carry out the tasks he assigns to us, but it may seem to us at times that we are pushed over the edge. We find our strength exhausted. But we can never say that God has treated us unfairly. He can renew our strength, and it may be his will that we are seen to suffer for the sake of his word. Our suffering is going to have to be real. But the worst we suffer for Christ’s sake is small compared to what he has suffered for us.
