We see the strong contrast here. They had said, ‘Jeremiah, get a message of comfort from the Lord for us, because Nebuchadnezzar is about to attack us’, and back comes the reply from the Lord: ‘Behold, I will turn back the weapons of war that are in your hands, wherewith ye fight against the king of Babylon.
The preacher of the gospel must shut men and women in to the gospel, and cut off every other possible way of escape for the unbelieving mind. The mind of the one who is on the run from God will dart here and there to find a way of escape, a way that avoids having to submit to God, and he must be shown again and again the only viable way of salvation.
