Time moves on between verse 11 and verse 12. We are going forward 11 years from the first year of Jehoiakim when this started.
‘Therefore hearken not unto the words of the prophets that speak unto you, saying, Ye shall not serve the king of Babylon: for they prophesy a lie unto you.’ They started out prophesying things which were not true, and delusion took over their minds, and they became persuaded by their own lies. That's how it works. That's how it is with liberal, unbelieving teachers today, with atheists and rationalists. Over time they become profoundly convinced of things which at first they were still willing to call mere theories; in their minds they become unassailable facts.
Atheists and even so-called Christians who hold to liberal, unbelieving theology are the same as these false prophets. If we could get them to stop and think of the magnitude of what they're saying, and the possible consequences of what they're saying. Atheists are saying, ‘There is no God’, and they will go all out to convince people of that. ‘There is nothing to fear, no judgment to come, no spiritual realities.’ And they lightly, and even cheerfully, and even jokily sometimes, go into things of such magnitude. They are completely out of their depth and out of their league. So it is here, with the degree of delusion, could these false prophets be even remotely comfortable saying these things? Nothing to fear. We do not have to submit.
