The scene at the end of chapter 6 is very bleak. But Jeremiah is told, ‘I have set thee,’ established you, positioned you in your place.
‘If it is so difficult, then why have I got to do it?’ Jeremiah’s spirit might have exclaimed. Because, Jeremiah, you don't know who the remnant are, who God will incline to listen. And anyway, even those who will not listen will one day be condemned by our words to them. They heard the mercy of God. So as winsomely as we can, we must go on in the middle of the situation, and try to bring out the elect.
