It is the eleventh hour for Jerusalem; the Chaldean invasion is shortly to take place. Nebuchadnezzar will destroy everything and take most of the population into captivity in the Chaldean empire, and the people cannot believe that this is going to happen to them.
Maybe a young person wants to sell themselves to the world of learning. Another makes a god out of business; he gives all his time to it. Some make a god out of youth itself – its pleasures; its optimism about life; that won’t help you when the real pressures come. Others worship things they save up for. But none of these things are personal, they cannot help you. You see how direct Jeremiah was in his address.
