Given this complete failure to carry out their work, was there any indication that the leaders of Judah had any sense of shame? That is certainly what one would expect, for God has put a conscience in every man. The prophets and the priests knew what was their calling and what message they were supposed to deliver.
False teachers today don’t seem to have any shame – think of the lies they make up, the claims they boast of, the false promises that they make, the misrepresentations of God’s message. There will be a judgment for them all. Part of their punishment will relate to all the harm they have done to others by their false message. Each one will bear responsibility for their own sin, but there is certainly an element of blame attaches to them for the harm they have caused to others.
