Again, these words which seem so kind are in fact cruel because they hold out relief in such tantalising language on terms they Job could not accept for a moment. God is able to bring relief from times of suffering and to make us forget all the misery of the past, and Job did finally experience exactly this sort of relief, but when it came it was on quite different grounds to that offered by Zophar.
Is there someone who is never concerned about going the wrong way, and never worries about doing what is wrong? Galatians 5 warns us there is something seriously amiss in such a person. Some Christian books say this: ‘God intends you to be happy, happy, happy all the day long’, but the true Christian has to struggle, and face trials, disappointments, and painful lessons at times. He is aware of the battle within him as the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh. That struggle cannot be absent in a true believer.
