He is judging God’s attitude towards him almost entirely on the basis of his circumstances, what he can see. He suffers and all things come from the hand of God, therefore this suffering comes from the hand of God, therefore God is angry with him and is against him.
In heaven all the uncompleted tasks of our lives, all confusion and all unresolved difficulties will be taken away; there we will be able to have perfect peace. Can we not look ahead and let go of our worries in this world? Can we not cast our cares upon the Lord? This does not mean that they are no longer our concerns and our responsibilities. We are not told to abandon our positions in life, but we are told how to obtain peace about these things, for God is able to resolve them all. We are not asking to be prematurely removed from the world, but to have peace in the world, because the things that concern us here are burdens that we need bear only for a time. I should be willing to let go of both the world’s worries and its pleasures. This is the gift of the Lord’s Day, for it is an anticipation of heaven in which all earthly troubles will be removed. We put out of our minds all that we must concern ourselves with during the week and let go of them all. We look forward to that eternal rest.
