Imputing motives to Job that he has no right to impute, Eliphaz let’s his imagination carry him away. To read into the heart of others things that are not there, is a snare and a very great evil.
Our wisdom can go to our heads so that we believe ourselves capable of seeing what is hidden from us, but we have to proceed with much care in this area. We cannot see what is hidden from us in another person’s heart; only God truly knows it. The spiritual man judges all things and Christians must exercise discernment and distinguish between those who love the Lord and those who do not, but we must take care for we can only go by their fruits, and we are quite capable of misjudging those fruits when we allow our own prejudices to interpret them beyond what is legitimate. The Christian must and can keep himself from this danger, but the unbeliever can hardly help falling into this trap, especially if he becomes self-confident.
