Job falls back again to thinking of the miserable state that he is. His life is as good as over, for there is no prospect of recovery as far as he can see.
This is a matter of integrity with Job and it shows the price of integrity in the mind of this great saint. We must have the same determination not to let anything, even our own deliverance from suffering, come higher than the righteousness of God. We must have as great a zeal for the holiness of God as we have for our own souls, because certainly the two can never be separated and if for a time they seem to be, then our safest course is to uphold the holiness and righteousness of the Lord. But is also a matter of reality, for as far as he is concerned the friend mock him, for what they are offering is a fabrication which has no ability to offer him any comfort, and therefore he has no desire to yield to it.
As believers we remind ourselves we have the Holy Spirit in us. We can never say what God will do. Believe in the power of prayer. It doesn’t matter what men say and we have God’s care. In depression we can take to the promises of God. We can bury ourselves in the word. We can take interest in hopes, aspirations of fellow believers. This will help us greatly.
