Job 26:9
Comments
Even though God’s works are constantly evident to us, it is a complete mystery how he intervenes in our world. We can see his handiwork, but we cannot see his hand at work. His throne, the centre from which all his actions come is shrouded in the deepest obscurity so that we are unable to discern the mechanism of God’s intervention or observe him at work. Only by special revelation are the heavens opened and the throne of God made visible (Acts 7:55-56). This should not be taken as part of Job’s complaint against God: that he could not understand what was happening in his own life and why he had to suffer so. He is talking in more general terms about the invisible action of God and about the obscurity that surrounds God which no mortal man can penetrate. This truth is a cause of praise, not of complaint.
