Spiritual pride can feed on genuine righteousness. We have a sinful nature within us, and that should make us to be exceedingly careful about reflecting too much on our good deeds. ‘Let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth’, says the Lord Jesus (Matthew 6:3). It is like the manna which corrupts if kept till the next day. What is good becomes bad to us. ‘Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips’ (Proverbs 27:2).
