Job 30:11 Commentary and Bible Study

What previously held them back was the mark of God’s favour on Job, but when this was removed there was nothing left to restrain feelings that were already present in them. Like a pack of dogs kept at bay by the shouts of their master, when he is gone they rush in, driven by their urge to scavenge. So these men gladly cast off the restraint that held them back while Job still enjoyed the approval of men. Now, like a bow which has had its bowstring loosed, Job’s frame has collapsed leaving him helpless and vulnerable to all attack. He can no longer ward off attacks that he could easily have prevented in the past. He is sure that it is God who has done this to him but he does not know why.
