Job 30:15
Comments
Job is so oppressed that he is no longer able to keep terror at bay. What would have been easy for him in the past has now become impossible. Since God seems to be against him, he has lost his ultimate defence and finds himself alone in an alien world that has only hatred for him. The believer derives so much secret strength from the Lord through being conscious of his love towards him. When he imagines this is removed, he does not know to what depths he will sink. These new antagonists made Job’s soul (or literally his nobility, his honour) their target, wanting to strip him bear and leave him with nothing. They saw his honour as the highest treasure that he possessed that was within their reach. What would once have seemed like a hopeless aspiration – to bring Job down – had now become an actuality and their pursued it with eager malice. They drew attention to all that Job had lost and with cruelty that surpassed even some children’s uninhibited words they dragged him down into the dust. For Job to be aware of all this it is evident that many other attacks on Job took place which are not recorded in the book.Job felt that he had nothing left and the days of his prosperity were now nothing more than a memory which lacked all power to provide present comfort. This change just provoked the painful question, ‘Why has God allowed this?’
