Job 30:19
Comments
He, God, says Job, has cast me into the mire, the dirt, which no one intentionally does to an object they value or wish to retrieve again. He has become like dust and ashes which are trampled on, discarded, and a place where refuse is thrown. It is therefore a sign to Job that he is abandoned by the Lord. Job struggles because, like the three friends, he can see no other purpose in trials and discipline than to mark one out as fit for destruction. He cannot reconcile such things to the love of God towards him, and yet this is what faith is required to do and this is what Elihu soon proceeds to remind him. Job was wrong to question whether he was loved by the Lord. He was wrong to see himself as worthless in God’s eyes and in fact, unknown to him, God has spoken of him as the most worthy man of his age.
