Job 35:15 Commentary and Bible Study

‘God has been kind’, says Elihu. ‘He has waited on you and has not dealt with you in extreme anger as you deserve. You are under pressure and have gone off at a tangent. God has not held it against you, but absorbed it. You have taken advantage of God’s leniency to rebel even further. Don’t go on any longer.’ God might justly have responded to such strong and unworthy complaints as had come from the mouth of Job, but he had not done so. Instead, he had prolonged Job’s life until this point and continued to spare him. God had not forgotten his own justice as Job feared. He knew what he was going to do. Job had not seen the true situation he was in, but had acted as if he was the injured party and allowed a torrent of complaints to pour forth from his mouth, making all manner of accusations against the Lord which were not justified. Elihu wants Job to see himself as he really is and to reassess all that has happened.
