Job 38:35 Commentary and Bible Study

Using graphic personification the Lord asks Job if he can send out the lightning bolts and have them report back to him that they have obediently gone to the mark to which they were sent. Of course there are no such words spoken to God, but this is his beautiful way of saying that his will is perfectly obeyed, and even the lightning bolts whose path is so impossible for man to predict go nowhere but to the place God would have them go. How vast then is the knowledge of God and how great is his control of the world, when those aspects of the world – including those which appear to us incapable of being controlled or even traced – are known perfectly to him. It is as if they were intelligently carrying out his spoken commands. Yet God does this every day and man seldom turns his mind to consider the skill with which he rules the world.
