God continues to use lofty poetry in speaking to Job. The picture which follows is of a beast which is master of his situation, which fears nothing and is untouched by things that disturb lesser beasts.
What is this really saying? Look at this creature, he does not worry; he does not fret; he seems to be possessed of great peace and assurance, and Job is being humbled by comparison with such a beast. This is what God looks for from his people – great strength, great resilience, great depth, and also great trust. This is the sort of stature and standing we all sorely need – never resembling panicking, worrying people, who always feel sorry for themselves, and are easily crushed. This is what faith enables one to do. Faith is the secret weapon of the Christian in all trials. Oh to have such a view of Christ that we are strong, immoveable from our trust in God, come what may.
