Job 5:12

Eliphaz believes God does this here and now. He delivers from hurt and rescues the weak (verse 12); he exposes the cunning and craftiness of those who attempt to take advantage of the darkness (verse 13), and rewards them in kind (verse 14); he takes persecution away (verse 15); and so those who are poor and needy find their relief in his deliverances, and the wicked are given an answer which they cannot resist, right now (verse 16). His justice is complete and operates in the world now to bring about a perfect government on earth. You can therefore tell by observing his providence who is righteousness and who is wicked, and Job’s character can easily be read by what happens to him. Injustice has come to the service right now in that Job has succeeded in covering over his hypocrisy for a few moments, but very soon God’s justice will assert itself again in this world. His view is that God is only interested with the here and now – happiness on earth. ‘If only you would repent, Job, God would lift you up.’ He is wrong to say this.
Application
Questions
The truth is that God is perfectly just and these words are true, but only if you transpose them, and apply them to God’s overall purpose, including what takes place on the Day of Judgment and eternity that follows. It may be that someone complains that this world is so unjust. Yes, but that is one of the troubles with this world, and is why God must judge it. It is a product of the heart of man. If you were Prime Minister, the world would probably continue to deteriorate and be worse after twenty years. Heaven and earth will be just. Injustice here should lessen our trust in man, and make us look to God for perfect justice..
