Job 6:28 Commentary and Bible Study

In these three verses, Job calls his comforters to give careful attention to what he is about to say in chapter 7, as well as what he has already said. He appeals to their ability to discern whether he is speaking the truth, and urges them to set aside the prejudices which are building up within them. Let them take a fresh look at his case and not continue with the same line of attack. He appeals to their sense of pity, and to consider carefully what he says. He may be saying this to them, not only because he wants a fair hearing, but because he sees that they are going to be guilty for making such a false judgment of him, and he is concerned for them. ‘Is there iniquity in my tongue?’ He invites them to take a new look at his words and not just to harden their position. He knows the power of prejudice and sees it present in these three men. Let their consciences examine him just as by his own conscience he examines him – his spiritual taste – and let them agree with him in concluding that he is not being perverse by insisting that he is free from hypocrisy. Let them offer him real help by searching with him for the true explanation of what is happening to him, however difficult it may be to understand.He wants a fair hearing from them, but he is not going to get it, because their theology will determine the way they hear all his arguments. To them, they will sound like self-justification and criticism of God, and therefore they will intensify their attack on him.
