Job 9:25

The post is a runner who is carrying letters, and is chosen for his speed. Job’s days seem pointless and rush past accomplishing nothing. In this miserable state his life is hurrying towards the grave. He has forgotten that God’s grace always goes on. He says, ‘My God is not the same as he used to be, but is now withdrawn. He now treats me no different to all other men. Whenever I approach in prayer, he rebuffs me, he snubs me. He is not the same anymore.’ The ship passes relentlessly on its way. You look at it a few minutes later and it is far away, and soon disappears over the horizon. Today we look out on the events that we encounter, but we will soon be looking back and there is nothing we can do to slow the passing of time.The eagle comes down at over 100 mph in a dive that makes it very hard for its slow-moving target to escape. This must have been one of the fastest objects that Job knew of in his daily experience. Job’s life was passing with the same speed, rushing towards its miserable goal – death, the point at which all earthly experience is beyond our reach.
Application
How greatly mistaken the Christian can be at his gloomiest moments. All these words of Job and all his trials were being recorded and would be preserved in God’s word for future generation. They would teach believers how to avoid these mistakes, and set before us a man who was pressed beyond measure, and yet did not deny his God. Job by his patience was proving the powers of darkness to be wrong about the tenacity of faith, but all this was hidden from him for the moment.
