There are some people who use this word ‘receive’ much too lightly. They say, to receive Christ means this: you change your mind about him. That is all you have to do. You repent in the very literal sense of the word (because repentance means a turn about, a change of mind). You repent only in the very literal sense that you change your mind about Christ. Last week I didn’t think anything of him; this week I think he is the eternal Son of God and my Saviour; I have changed my mind about him. But repentance doesn’t just mean changing your mind about Christ, it means changing your mind about your sin, repenting of your sin. I Lord am a sinner, I have been proud, I have been deceitful. I have besmirched my soul and my life, I have been a rebel. I am ashamed of my sin and I seek forgiveness.
