John 1:20

John the Baptist was so open about this. ‘I am not the Christ.’ He is very clear, very firm. What we are reading of here is something that happened on the first of four consecutive days that the Gospel of John in this chapter is going to be recording. He had been preaching for some eight or nine months when this happened. After a while, the Lord Jesus Christ had come to him for baptism. We read about it in Matthew 3. Christ had been baptised, and then he had suffered the forty days of terrible temptation, the assault by the enemy of souls, and after that, at some stage, he seems to make his way back to Bethabara, and he is there, on site as it were, in the crowd when John is interrogated by the delegation from Jerusalem. This would be perhaps March 27 AD.
