To illustrate the similarity, not the absolute correspondence, but the similarity of Christ’s knowledge of his people and their knowledge of him to that of his relationship with the Father, he makes this comparison. It is not possible that we could know Christ in the same way as he knows the Father.
We love him and we trust him. He is faithful to us in every way; we will be faithful to him, we will not desert him. No matter what happens to the Christian in life – sore trials and difficulties, grief and hardship – always trust him. We know that he knows, we know that he will strengthen us; we know that he has the matter in hand, and so we trust him and we love him no matter what.
