So darkened was their understanding and so strange did his words sound in their ears that some were prepared to say that Jesus was demon possessed and that he was mad, and therefore no sense was to be expected in what he said. What could he possibly mean by saying that he would lay down his life and take it up again? But others could not reach this blasphemous conclusion and reasoned that God would not endorse one who was demon possessed, by allowing him to open the eyes of the blind. That was to them sufficient reason why they should struggle to understand him however difficult they found this parable.
