Of course, Christ did not need to come by repentance and faith, but he brought the possibility of repentance and faith because he came in order to suffer and die for sin on Calvary’s cross. He purchased salvation for all repentant sinners. So he can describe himself as coming in through the door of salvation, in his case, to provide it, in our case, to receive it.He is the door, the provider of access, and he is the shepherd. He suffers and dies so that our repentance and trust in him may be effective. He provides salvation. He is also the shepherd. He is the healer of souls who loves us, who by his Spirit calls us and draws us to himself, who sets all his affection upon us, and changes the character and gives spiritual life to a repentant sinner. So the door is the way. The shepherd is the way he brings us and tends us and calls us so perfectly, and then directly.
