Now we may say, they do not get it. But they do not want to get it. They are afraid to go to Jerusalem, afraid for him, and afraid for themselves. So yes, they do not receive it. The second intimation falls flat also.
Application
Mark you, we should not be over critical of the disciples, because we exhibit this kind of behaviour constantly as Christians. We have the word of God, and we go into our working day fearful of some situation, perhaps even trembling within, anxious and so on. We believe in the Lord, we believe in his goodness and power. We have had so much answered prayer and yet we behave often quite faithlessly. We forget his word; we forget his undertakings. So this persists, the need of conviction and faith. And they needed it too.
