Comments
They had laid a stone over the entrance of the cave, presumably to keep the wild animals at bay overnight.Jesus therefore again groaning in himself cometh to the grave.’ These are deep words. Do you know ‘groaned’ and ‘groaning’, the Greek term is generally used to mean with ‘anger’ or with ‘indignation’. And it wasn’t just sympathy – which was certainly included – but the Lord was so indignant, and so pained about death, that the devil had lied to our first parents, that they had fallen and disobeyed, and that death had come into the human race, and he was deeply indignant.
Application
It should effect believers too, and that their world, and their experience, should be hurt by death. Christ was indignant. That Satan should triumph – apparently – even in this respect, even in a limited way, grieve the Lord, and he was deeply indignant.
