The Lord now does something remarkable. ‘Jesus saith unto them’ – the ‘them’, I think, including the priests and the scribes and the Pharisees – ‘Loose him.’ Here he is, untie him. Wonderful! They not only saw the raising of Lazarus, they touched the living Lazarus. They were so up-close. They could say after that: I undid his grave clothes; I unwound the winding. There is no excuse for them now not to believe in the divinity of Christ and his appointment from the Father.
