This verse is about the situation with Lazarus. ‘When he,’ the Lord, ‘had heard therefore that he was sick, he abode two days still in the same place where he was.’ They were at least a day’s journey away. ‘Then after that saith he to his disciples, Let us go into Judaea again. They are horrified and they cannot understand that he wants to return. The intimation that he is going to raise Lazarus – of course it is easy for us to see with hindsight, but they should have seen it as his disciples. They had seen him raise others. The son of the widow at Nain. They had seen the child, the daughter of Jairus raised and now – this is not hard for Christ.
