How firm and fixed are God’s purposes! How impossible that they should fail to come to pass! The disciples for the moment could not understand the great significance of the events that they took part in. They simply followed Christ’s instructions and only later understood that their actions had contributed to the fulfilling of prophecy. As they looked back afterwards, how they must have been filled with wonder at the overruling providence of God that never goes off track and works constantly whether we wake or sleep, whether we understand it or not, whether we fight against it or strive to cooperate with it. It is good to be in God’s plan as those who are loved by him and for whom all things work together for good. It is even better to be aware of what his plan is and to be consciously and prayerfully cooperating with it.
