Here we have the third voice, the voice of witnesses. Many of them had been doubters. They were members of the Sanhedrin council, leading Jews. Many of them had been there close up. Some had even assisted in removing the grave clothes from Lazarus after he was risen from the dead. Our King James Version puts it this way at the end of verse 17 – ‘bare record’, but the Greek could be rendered ‘went on bearing record’, repeatedly proclaimed; they went on telling people. They could not keep quiet about it.
