Do you love your life? The Pharisees loved their lives. They loved themselves; they thought they were righteous, when they weren’t. Do you love yourself? ‘I’m a fine person; I’m a fine personality.’ Are you content with material things and your life in this world, and all you can enjoy? No time for spiritual life and life eternal – prosperity and pleasure is everything. These words are for you. ‘He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world.’ You see you are a sinner, and you see through this vain world – oh, there are nice things in it, which the Lord lets us have to enjoy, but taken as one, it’s a God-hating world. ‘He that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal. If any man serve me,’ or thinks he does, let him serve me in this way, verse 26, ‘If any man serve me, let him follow me.’
