By saying this, Christ revealed to the disciples the need for heart searching. They went on looking at each other.
I wonder even as Christians if we have all done this, really pledged ourselves. We should do it before every Lord’s Supper. Lord, take me afresh. ‘Take my life, and let it be, Consecrated Lord to thee. Take my moments and my days,’ take everything. Let me never refuse thee. If somebody says, ‘Will you teach a class?’ ‘I will do it, Lord.’ If somebody says, ‘Will you share in the visiting in the community?’ ‘I will do it, Lord. I will never refuse thee, Lord. If I can possibly do it, I will. I will give thee my life, my time, my all.’ That is what the disciples did. ‘Lord, is it I?’ I give myself to thee. So there was heart-searching. That is one of the unseen duties of the Christian life which the Lord now remarkably reveals to them, and all the disciples search their hearts.
