It is as though Christ says to those eleven who are left: Do you not understand? I am not a political Messiah. I am not here to be a great earthly leader. I am here to be humiliated and my real glory is in that humiliation. That humiliation will be the greatest imaginable glory. In that humiliation I shall die for millions upon millions of sinners and purchase for them eternal glory. I shall purchase the new heavens and the new earth. I shall bring about the whole eternal future - the Christian church and the eternal hereafter. I shall secure real glory to myself as the Son, and to the Father. And it will be evident, and you will see all the attributes of God in me, my love, my power of life as I rise from the dead, and as I ascend to the Father, Father and Son will together be supremely glorified and the attributes of God revealed. They did not understand it yet. Will it sink in? It will after Calvary. He told us that this was his glorification. The resurrection will follow the atoning death very speedily.
