So the response of Christ, verse nine – ‘Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip?’ Have you not reflected, have you not drawn the obvious conclusion? Have you not thought about it? Have you not marvelled and wondered and melted at the sense of privilege that you are a disciple of the second person of the Godhead? ‘He that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?’Oh, if Christ had been only a man and a fallible man, how grieved he would have felt at their slowness to understand. But of course, he is God, he is perfect.
