We view this great and wonderful prayer of the Lord with reverence and with amazement. It is the prayer of our Saviour immediately before he goes to Gethsemane, followed by his arrest, trial and crucifixion.
It has been said, well, that this prayer is different from the Lord’s Prayer in Matthew 6 and other passages, where Jesus Christ taught the disciples how to pray. But the Lord could not have prayed that prayer himself. It was for them. He could not have prayed it himself because confession is made for sin. Forgiveness is asked. But this prayer is for things that only the Son of God can ask for. There is no confession here. There is no acknowledgement of need here, because he is God, all-powerful, all-eternal and infinite.
