In this setting, the word ‘sanctify’ means something along these lines – ‘I devote myself, I consecrate myself.’ He was going to consecrate himself to his work on Calvary’s cross to thereby purchase us and secure our salvation, so that we in turn could devote and consecrate ourselves to his service and to the pursuit of holiness for him. ‘For their sakes I devote, consecrate myself, that they also in due turn might be devoted and sanctified through the truth.’ He devoted himself to Calvary, we devote ourselves to making him known and to living in holiness.
