Annas evidently gave up the interrogation, and at that point sent him bound to Caiaphas the high priest. Our translation says, ‘Now Annas had sent him bound.’ You could drop the ‘had’, the Greek does not have the ‘had’. Our translators are trying to be helpful, but it is just a little confusing because it suggests it happened some time ago. ‘But now Annas sent him bound unto Caiaphas the high priest.’
