And those soldiers represent us too for much of our lives - their shameless indifference, their total lack of awe and awareness about the person and work of the Lord. The Holy Spirit makes sure we take note of it, puts across to us that this was staggering, this was amazing that such a thing could happen. And yet we see it in human nature and in our own nature. We have disregarded the Lord; we who were made by him, we who rightly belong to him, we who must one day face him and give an account of the lives that we have lived. And yet what foolish and what base indifference we show to him.
