Pilate had asked questions of Christ before but he was not the slightest bit interested in any spiritual help. And we read here – ‘Jesus gave him no answer.
‘Jesus gave him no answer,’ there was nothing to be said, and it is the same with you. You may be in this church today but if you want no help from God, you will get no understanding of these things, no light. Don’t imagine that you can come to the Bible, to the word of God, just at an intellectual level and understand this faith. You can’t. These things only become meaningful, they only pierce the heart and come home to people who are ready to be helped. Christ has nothing to say in a saving way if you don’t want him, if you are critical, if you are proud, if you are cynical. You will find nothing that you will really grasp which will mean anything to you because ‘the rich [that means the proud] he sends empty away.’ ‘God resisteth the proud’ we read in the letter of James, quoting from the book of Proverbs, he resists the proud, and he resists here Pontius Pilate in what he seeks to ask.
