We imagine them dipping vessels into the larger vessels and drawing them out for serving. What happened? We cannot tell when that water was turned into wine.
We learn the necessity of obedience. If they had not obeyed then they would have had no outcome, no blessing, no provision, and no wonder. They needed to obey. There is a parallel in salvation. It is obvious to us. Repent and believe, yield to Christ, bow the knee to him. But surely there is some other way of salvation? Am I not supposed to contribute something? Am I not supposed to think of my good works? Will they not count towards it? No, just obey him, repent of your sin, trust in him alone and what he has done on Calvary’s cross to bear away the punishment due to you for your sin. Give your life to him, be ready to obey him as he gives you strength and changes your life. He is going to tell you to leave the world alone and all its delights. He is going to tell you to live for him. Be ready to obey him, whatever the word says.
