Obey me, says the Lord, serve me. Deny yourself, follow me. Christ denied himself. We do not have to live exactly as he lived, without a roof over his head in comparative poverty, but we are to honour his lifestyle; we are not to aim at splendour and riches. Follow me, with simplicity of life. Suffer well, expect it. Walk in the light of the goal, the end of the journey. Keep Heaven in view. Follow me exclusively, do not share me with some foolish hobby or career ambition. Do not share me with possessions, says Christ. Follow me sacrificially with your substance and your energy and your time. Follow me lovingly, do it out of love not out of duty, because you love me and you belong to me. Follow me with eternity in view, every stage of life and for ever. These are the standards for us also.
