John 3:23
Comments
We do not know where Aenon or Salim was, but they were clearly to the north of where Christ was baptising. People were still coming to John, but as we read on we see indications that the masses had been diverted to Christ. The point has to be made: Christ and John the Baptist were quite near to each other, as the crowds came to both in order to be baptised. [Significantly it is observed that John’s baptism required a plenteous supply of water, suggesting that it involved more than a token amount of sprinkled water. Obviously it was a baptism involving immersion.]
