‘He that hath received his testimony’ – the minority – ‘hath set to his seal’. It is another illustration on the part of John the Baptist. I am a king, perhaps, and here I issue a decree, and I fix my seal to it to authenticate it, to prove it is genuine, this is issued by me and from me.‘He that hath received his testimony’, believed in him as Messiah, and depended upon him, ‘hath fixed his seal that God is true’, and he has kept his word and his promise and he has sent the Messiah. The person who does listen to the message of Christ, and respond to it, is like someone who gets his cygnet ring and plants it in the wax and makes a seal to say, ‘God is true, God is right.’ Perhaps we could put it in more modern language: if you do receive the message of Christ, you soon find you can absolutely certify, from your heart, that everything that God has said in his word is true. The Gospel is true. It really is possible to know the Lord, and his wonderful power. ‘These things are true – and I have proved it,’ you say, ‘now I know that all these things are so.’
