Christ shows him that what he is talking about is a change which is an act of God. ‘That which is born of the flesh’, physically by human parents, ‘is flesh’, and it inherits all the characteristics of flesh.
Obedience – All society now, building up since the 1960s, is against the concept of obedience, even obedience to parents, obedience to anyone. Today, you have no duty of obedience, least of all to God. Young society is deeply affected by this, brainwashed and trained not to obey, and that is our natural tendency anyway. One of the great signs of conversion is that suddenly, by the Spirit, a new factor enters into the human heart: God’s word has a moral demand upon us. We now have a deep obligation to obey God and be right by him. That is put within, it is a part of salvation. The proud and unteachable person becomes open and vulnerable to the word, and teachable and susceptible to instruction by God. Obedience to God is put within us, and desire for him, and love for him, and understanding of him. We have a new direction.
