Christ gives him this beautiful explanation: ‘The wind bloweth where it listeth’, where it will, wherever it is inclined. It is independent of human influence. You cannot redirect it, make it go in a different direction. How wonderful if we could somehow aim some beams skyward and force the jet stream to go north instead of south of the United Kingdom, and we would have blazing sunshine all the time. But it cannot be done, of course. To this day you cannot even manage the wind around your house and garden. The wind blows where it will; it is independent of human influence. We hear the sound of it in the trees and striking buildings and moving things, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it is going; what its policy is, what its plan is, you have no idea. It is a secret invisible operation of the Spirit of God. It is so different from natural birth, and it operates in the lives of people one by one as individuals.
